You need an account authentication key. It is usually shipped with the WoW installer CD. This account key is what you really paid for in the set. You could share the client installer CD with other people but never, never share an account with other people.
You can buy an account key straight from World of Warcraft’s site if you have a credit card. I think it is US$20 and also gives 1 free month access. This key opens an account with WoW. Think of it as buying a car with US$20 (with 1 month free gasoline) and paying for the subsequent fill-ups with the prepaid card.
Or, you could take the 10-day free trial account first and upgrade it later to a full account. Go to WoW’s site at http://www.worldofwarcraft.com to make an account and get the trial or full key.
