How Can I Be Sure That The Domain Name I Register Belongs To Me And Not To The Registrar I Register With?

I like to register / park a domain name first while I work on the website content. How best to go about it? Are there different prices or one fixed price? How can I be sure that the domain name that I register now belongs to me/my company and can be used with a web host that I have yet to decide? Thanks for advice.

You have a lot of questions. You should go to
    namepros.com / dnforum.com
These are places where domainers/web site owners/ and new people to the business go for information and chat.

Under the WHOIS record of a domain name, there are several “Contacts” — Billing, Administrative, Technical, and Registrant. The Registrant is the legal owner and the Administrative contact has the hands-on control of the domain.
