Each class can wear different type of armors :
Mage : cloth
Warlock : cloth
Priest : cloth
Druid : cloth; leather
Hunter : cloth; leather; mail (after lvl 40)
Shaman : cloth; leather; mail (after lvl 40)
Paladin : cloth; leather; mail; plate (after lvl 40)
Warrior : cloth; leather; mail; plate (after lvl 40)

well there is no “chain” armor, im guessing u either mean mail or plate, and to wear plate you must be a warrior, paladin, or a death knight and u must be lvl 40+ and have to buy the training, and if you mean mail, you have to be a warrior, paladin, death knight, hunter and shaman, but for a hunter or shaman to wear it they must be lvl 40+ and have to buy the training

You know when you can wear it when you train for it.
If you are a Warrior or Paladin you will train in the proficency in plate when you hit 40.
If you are a Hunter or Shaman, same but with mail.

Well it really depends on your class,
Warriors:Can wear chain anytime
Hunters:You can learn from a trainer at lvl 40
Paladin:Can wear chain anytime

there wont be anything written in red on the description of the armor
