As the answers above me, you will need to download all the patches, up to 3.1. This could take roughly 8-10 hours. I suggest running it through the night and leaving p2p on if your connection is high enough. Your downloads are automatic. so that is why you cant play yet.

If you just got the game, your gonna have to spend a lot of time waiting for it to update once you install it.
Its about 10 hrs of downloading if you got the old WoW cds, but if you got the newer ones, it will take a lot less, i suggest you do this while you do other stuff because you need to check on it once every patch finishes downloading.

You have to let it run overnight because you have to download a lot of patches so it will take a while but it is worth it

Go to the start menu, click run, and paste this in there, then hit enter. C:Program FilesWorld of Warcraftwow.exe

You are going to have to go through alot of patch work. I agree you should let it run over night. The wait is well worth it though!
